In splendid isolation, Ferme de la Tour — “La Tour” — is located in the southern part of the Jura mountains: the Haut-Bugey. It sits within a remarkably wild and now protected natural setting: the Combe de Léchaud, at an altitude of 1,000 meters.
This place, a stepping stone to the vast Retord plateau, is a true natural reserve with rich flora typical of marshy highland plateaus. The four seasons are very distinct there, and its scenery invites relaxation.
An abbey farm built at the beginning of the 17th century by the Abbey of Nantua, Ferme de la Tour is a place for resting both body and mind. It is ideal for family reunions and days of pure tranquility.
A historic farm, La Tour has been completely restored and transformed into a refined and comfortable residence. It includes four double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, as well as a loft — ideal for families — offering six single beds with a bathroom.
Your events take on a new meaning at La Tour. Inspiring serenity and reflection, the location is well suited for executive seminars as well as business meals, in an uncommon atmosphere. Our spaces are designed for 14 people; however, they can host up to 40 guests for meals, concerts, or other ceremonies.
La Tour is a naturally peaceful site, ideal for gentle activities. It’s a place to rejuvenate, alone, with your family, or with friends. You may meditate and contemplate the beauty and simplicity of nature, the harmony of its architecture and extraordinary timber frame, and the character of its locally sourced furniture — each piece patiently selected and restored.
In the majestic barn space, you can play the piano, practice singing, and enjoy music in acoustics that seem naturally tuned to their surroundings.
French and American billiards, table football, and board games are available on the mezzanine.
Time seems to have stopped at La Tour. From its library, you can choose a classic book that you haven’t yet had the time to read. You may enjoy its chapters by the large fireplace, or in the warmer season, on one of the terraces or on the rocking chair on the balcony.
The interior of La Tour is a non-smoking space, for the well-being and respect of all.
From the terraces of La Tour, you can stroll through the park filled with botanical surprises. Wander around the monks’ pond, or even fish for perch and roach. You will surely admire its 400-year-old lime tree, still in excellent shape, as well as a magnificent view of the Combe de Léchaud — a landscape unchanged for centuries.
From La Tour, starting in spring, you can go hiking and explore mountain bike trails, and in winter, put on skis right outside the house to go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing through valleys and forests. Forget your car — you’re on holiday!
A few kilometers away in winter, on the Cuvery or Brénod sites, you can try dog sledding. The alpine ski slopes of Plans d’Hotonnes or Plateau d’Hauteville are perfect for family snow holidays. Lachat, Cuvery, Plans d’Hotonnes — in total, 270 km of cross-country and skating trails of all levels. You can even learn biathlon in Plans d’Hotonnes with an ESF instructor.
In summer, you may also enjoy Lake Nantua for swimming, paddleboarding, and canoeing.
Returning to La Tour, a traditional Finnish sauna awaits to help you unwind.
One of the charms of La Tour is its magnificent isolation, surrounded by wild nature, yet only 1 hour 30 minutes from Geneva or Lyon and their international airports. The Nurieux-Volognat TGV station is 45 minutes away, Bourg-en-Bresse station is 1 hour away, and Bellegarde station is 45 minutes away.
The nearest village, Brénod, is 10 km away, where you’ll find a bakery, a small grocery store, a renowned cheese shop, as well as a very useful Bar / Tobacco / Newspapers / Postal Point. The first supermarket, in Hauteville, is 20 minutes away, and, for luxury enthusiasts, the first Hermès or Louis Vuitton store is 70 km away…!
Our friends, the domestic animals, are not admitted to La Tour. Starting in spring, cows and heifers graze around the property, and the local wildlife remains very wild and protected.
You are very welcome at Ferme de la Tour, and we will be delighted to host you. You will find the reservation form on the next page.
